This summer, after over a decade since my last trip to Hawaii, I had the opportunity to go back there for my mother’s birthday. I never forgot the amazing Hawaiian sunsets from my last visit and made sure to bring my camera, so that I could capture at least one magnificent sunset.

The weather was just perfect; the water was so warm and clear. I definitely enjoyed this family vacation.

Waimea Bay is a beach that usually has big waves and a huge rock that you can climb, and then, jump in the water. The sun was setting and the water was high, but calm. We swam for a while, and I was thinking that it would be great if I could take pictures of the sunset on that rock. At that moment, I showed my daughter the plan that I had in mind for a picture, and pointed to the rock. At that precise moment, no one was standing on the rock, and I told my daughter that the timing was perfect. But I also told her that I was sure that by the time I would actually take the photograph, the rock would be crowded with people.

The sun was setting, so I decided to go back to the car to pick up my camera. By the time I was coming back the sun was already really low, so I ran toward the rock… and guess what?

The rock was bustling. 

The sunset was just gorgeous, as was the location. I decided to capture someone jumping off of the massive rock and into the water. Look closely to the right and you’ll spot her. 

I love this picture for the story behind it, the composition of the people gathering on top of the rock, the woman who was jumping, and of course, this one-of-a-kind Hawaiian sunset.
